“Forest Bathing” by Scott Sparks

They call it shin rin yoku, if my spelling’s correct
Walking through the woods slowly to reflect
Taking in the natural sounds all around
A distant stream; winds whispering their dreams
And somewhere, on a branch unseen, sits an owl
Surrounding trees altogether dwarf the height you claim
Birds chirp intermittently without emitting blame
The sun’s allotted scattered slivers of influence
Just enough to light the path of your preference
Insects skitter across moss that’s taken over
Undisturbed earth welcomes life and death alike between its shoulders
A sweet smell from somewhere enters your nasal
Interrupting the array of things that may phase you
A canopy of leaves signifies comfort at your disposal
Getting away from the fray seems a logical proposal
