“Scoops (A Flashback Experience!)” by Richard F. Yates

A few days ago, I received an oddly shaped package from a friend of mine, Joe Hamel. Joe now lives in Virginia, way on the other side of the country, but we used to live on the west coast, and we went to school together back in a little town called Castle Rock, Washington, in the early 1980s!

I opened the package, and inside, I found this:

scoops

It’s the remains of a t-shirt from way back in 1997 advertising a DJ event that Michael King and I staged at The Allen Street Bar & Grill in Kelso, Washington. The entire building has since been demolished, but the MEMORIES live on!!! The image was designed by Mike, and he printed a very limited number of the shirts. Joe must have held on to this relic for nearly 20 years, then framed it and shipped it to me!

Extreme thanks to Joe for sending this blast from the past! I have a batch of fliers from back then that I need to scan (Mike still has STUFF, thankfully) that showcase our nutty sense of humor. I should do that real soon… Anyway, thanks again, Joe! VERY COOL!!!

  1. Wow. That must have been mind blowing to receive. It’s always so interesting when we come across things from a time that feels like it’s eons away.
