“Windowless” by Scott Sparks

The engine that had to make a decision
Should this lack of light be permitted as its endin’?
It’s always cold, what’s the big deal?
An endless upward moving hill
Oh well – this lot in life sure as hell ain’t a lot
Strained and uptight more often than not
Subject to change when everyday’s the same
A windowless, well-lit set of complaints restive on my brain
But this locomotive couldn’t afford to lose focus
Contradiction of tracks contorted and malodorous
It’s always cold, what’s the big deal?
An endless upward moving hill
Oh well – this lot in life likes me to believe what is not
Thoughts conceived short-sighted, never to reach the top
Shoulders lowered and tense as I set my feet
This current lack of light won’t be the end of me
A sting in my eyes from all the tears and sweat
Pretty soon, won’t be sayin’ there ain’t no light yet
